The Feldenkrais Method® of somatic education

The Feldenkrais Method® uses movement to educate the nervous and muscular systems. There are two ways to experience the Feldenkrais Method®:

Functional Integration® and Awareness Through Movement®

Functional Integration®

Functional Integration® is the one-on-one component. In a Functional Integration® lesson, the teacher uses gentle, noninvasive touch and words. Revolving around the improvement the client is seeking, sessions are often deeply relaxing with improvements that unfold for days afterwards. Learn more about private sessions with Cynthia Allen >>

Awareness Though Movement®

In Awareness Though Movement® classes, the teacher gives verbal directions and cues, leading students to explore movement sequences. The movement sequences, simple as they appear, promote learning. Initially students note subtle changes such as increased range of motion. Over time, these initial gains lead to significant change. View the current FLN class schedule >>

About Dr. Feldenkrais

Picture of Dr. FeldenkraisMoshe Feldenkrais, D.Sc (1904-1984) was born in Russia and immigrated to Israel at the age of 13. He became an engineer, physicist, and martial artist.

Dr. Feldenkrais, a vital, physically active man, applied his background as a researcher and Judo master to improve his own life when his health presented a seemingly insurmountable challenge.

His studies included many disciplines including psychology, childhood development, Eastern medicine, philosophy and neurophysiology. From this inquiry the Feldenkrais Method® was born.

Feldenkrais is not just pushing muscles around but changing things in the brain itself.

Dr. Karl Pribram, Neuroscientist
